Wow, I cannot believe it has been so long since I've had something to say. So much has happened since the last entry. The jerk did buy my parents house and the deal is done. They moved their belongings into the new house in TC on the 12th and the chaos began immediately.....painters, garage door people, plumbers, electricians, contractors, pool guys, etc. It is like a war zone in that house and I am very glad that my mother is out of down during the worst of it. The painter thought he'd be done by the end of this week but he's not even completed one room. He has stripped ceilings, pulled wallpaper and primed all the bedrooms but still needs to paint the walls and all the doors, trim and molding back there before we can declare those rooms done. Then he has all the living areas to do after that. I do not think he will make his deadline. There is a new garage door so at least Mom can see something of progress when she returns. My father is also surprising her with all new exterior doors but they will not be done when she returns.
My dear husband has spent the past week working on Mom's flowerbeds and yard to make it lovely for her return. I spent the week working on the deck (new deck boxes for storage, a new chair for lounging) and staining the new gates. In 105 degree weather, it seems like more work than it actually sounds. It was miserable but at least we had a pool to jump into when it got too hot. If my dad and brother would actually clean up after themselves, there is a good chance my mother will love the look of the yard and patio but knowing them - all she will see is junk and clothes laying everywhere. My father decided yesterday to dry all of his clothes on the deck. Not sure why the dryer is not an option but then again, this is my father we are talking about. This is the same man who managed to play golf and play in the pool the whole time C and I were working on the yard. And have I mentioned my lazy, inconsiderate brother lately?? No? Well, that is a long story that I'm not sure I'm in the right frame of mind to get into right now. I will tell his story at some point but not today. He's on my list today so it's best I pass him over for now.
One bright spot in all of this is that C and I snuck away for a weekend in Louisiana while the kids were in WV w/ Mom. We stayed at a B&B the first night and had a wonderful time shopping, talking and relaxing in Natchitoches. Then we headed to the big town of Shreveport for a couple of night at Sam's Town. The first night started off poorly and I was down a bit at the tables so I was feeling a little blue. I decided to avoid the tables and play my points on the slots. I never ever do well at slots so I usually avoid them but they had given me $10 free play for getting a new card. I hit for $675 and was one happy slot player!!! All in all, it was a great weekend w/ my hubby and we brought home all our money plus some so I call that a successful vacation!!
One sad spot in all of this is that while my mom was visiting WV, she took my grandmother in for her stress test and she failed so they rushed her to the hospital in Charleston hoping to do an emergency angioplasty. No luck, the arteries were too clogged so today they are performing a quadruple bypass surgery on her. I'm sitting here waiting for word that the surgery is over. I know these have become routine but GJ is 84 and diabetic so I'm worried about her recovery and how difficult it will be on her. Mom and the kids are still coming home tomorrow but I'm guessing my mother will have to turn around and fly back up there to take care of GJ until she can transport her to TX for the remainder of her recovery.
As you can see, it is has been a crazy 3 weeks which explains my lack of communication. I would love to get life back into a normal routine but do not see that happening for a very very long time.
